Adventure to Cultus Lake

Last night we decided to take a drive to Cultus Lake. We'd heard about the Resort's all-you-can-eat ribs dinner on Friday and Saturday nights and we thought we'd take the challenge.

It was not easy getting there. It's supposed to be about a 45 minute drive from our house. But just 6 short miles shy of our destination we found a road block and a nice forestry lady in green detouring traffic. They were cleaning up a small forest fire and we had to take about a 20-minute detour to get there. And Natalie was growing impatient about being in the car for so long.

Once we arrived, we found a long wait for dinner and a very tiny dining room (if you can even call it that!) Fortunately, that gave us plenty of time to take pictures of Natalie and Daddy on the beach. Natalie also practiced her walking skills and made lots of new friends among the hungry patrons eagerly waiting for their name to be called. She was a good distraction.

Finally our name was called but we just weren't having that great of luck. We were stuck at the counter and both of the high chairs were already in use (curses, why didn't I bring our own!). Jeramy and I took turns eating because as you can imagine, ribs aren't the easiest thing to eat with a toddler in your lap. I kept giving the family that hijacked both highchairs the stink eye which seemed to just make them eat slower. Their kids looked old enough to do long division so I'm sure they could have easily sat in chairs... but I digress.

The dinner was delicious and they just kept bringing more and more food out for us. Natalie enjoyed the cornbread and baked beans.

The place slowly started to clear out and Natalie finally got her own chair. Even though we were stuffed, we just couldn't pass up homemade peach crisp a la mode (Natalie and I) and mint chocolate chip ice cream (Jeramy). Nat was in such a great mood the entire time and we were so grateful.

Overall, it was an interesting but fun and tasty adventure. We will be better prepared (and early!) next time though. Enjoy the pics and have a great week!

Vocabulary + Other Skills

To accompany a few new pictures of Natalie in her pajamas hanging on the front porch (below), I thought I'd share a few new words in her vocabulary.

whatsat? = what is that? usually accompanied by pointing to whatever she's referring to; repeated over and over until she gets an answer.

nananana = banana

ba ba = bottle

bay bay = baby; refers to her dolly or any stuffed animal

Tickle tickle = still her favorite word by far; usually used in a high pitch tone and/or whisper and accompanied by wiggling fingers

Luckily, although she knows and uses the word "no", it's pretty sparingly (for now).

Other milestones that prove that she's not just another pretty face:
  • Knows where (and points to with 89% accuracy) her hair, her belly, her belly button and her toes (she sometimes confuses "nose" with "toes" but we're working on that).
  • "Natalie, what does a cow say?" Answer resembles "mooo" almost always; on to other barnyard animals sounds.
  • She's finally more interested in books! She likes to turn the pages and hold the book (sometimes upside down, but hey, she's still learning!)
  • She climbs on everything and is very strong! Tonight she wanted something on her bookshelf and pulled herself up with her arms (feet went off the ground!) for a few seconds...
  • She's extremely affectionate; she waves to just about anybody (or anything) and strangers at the grocery store seem to get a kick out of it. She also blows kisses and for extra special people (and yes, her bay bay's and even the dogs), she provides the sweetest sloppy kisses (although I'm starting to wonder when she's going to start closing her mouth!)
  • However, she does sport a temper and often shows off her stubborn side
  • She's learning how to do things (today instead of just putting the capped bottle of nose saline in her mouth like she usually does, she actually mimicked twisting the cap off (guess her days of playing with household cleaners and prescription medication are over!)

Roughin' It

This weekend the Yost clan and the Fred clan went camping at East Lake. We had tons of fun, especially little Natalie and Gracie. They had a contest to see which little girl could get the dirtiest--it was a draw.

Natalie loves nature. We were a little nervous about her first camping trip but she did great! It got chilly at night but even that didn't phase her (daddy got her a down sleeping bag just her size and it worked perfectly!). We were so proud of her!

Loved this expression!

Natalie wanted to do everything Gracie did!

What dirt?

We even found Nat-sized trees!

Today we drove up to Paulina Peak where you could see for miles and miles in every direction. The elevation was just shy of 8,000 feet and it couldn't have been a more perfect day. The really cool part was that there were literally thousands and thousands of butterflies (or flutterbies as we call them!) all around us. Of course, I couldn't get any of them to be still for a picture so you'll have to take our word for it (the little spec by my head in the picture below is a butterfly!).

Pretty!

After we left the Fred family at Paulina Peak, Nat, Jeramy and I drove to Paulina Lake Resort. We just happened to stumble upon a BBQ with live music. We had an amazing BBQ chicken lunch and Natalie couldn't stop dancing to the tunes. It was a perfect afternoon!

Shakin' her booty!

Waving to the kids in the lake and watching the ducks swim by

Overall, first family camping trip was a success and I hope to have many more like this in the future! The Freds were awesome camping buddies (kudos to Debbie who did it 6-months pregnant and chasing a toddler!)

A Day at the Fair

Today we went to the Deschutes County Fair with Natalie. She rode a pony, saw lots of different animals, played with other kids in the Toddler Zone and made friends with a goat who plopped down on her feet and wouldn't get off! She had a lot of fun... Here are some pics.

Also, I'm including a few pics from our playdate with Stella. They had a grand time together playing in Stella's backyard.

Natalie's walking skills have been improving every day. I have some great footage that I just need to edit and post. Hope to get that done soon!

Pretty Girl

I don't know how, but this kid seems to get more and more gorgeous every day...
