Snow Baby

Natalie got a chance to play in the snow for the first time in her life today. She didn't quite know what to make of it, but she did know it was... cold! We have quite a bit of snow here so it seems she'll have plenty of time to get used to it. Meanwhile, I can't wait for spring!

Last Friday marked Natalie's half birthday. I baked cupcakes for the occasion and we shared them at our Mommy & Me group. Too bad the babies are too young to enjoy sweets yet! We also visited the doctor for her 6-month check up. Once again, she's doing great. She weighed in at a whopping 15 lbs and measured 26.5" long.

Fortunately she had her last round of immunizations for 6 whole months. Unfortunately, this time the shots didn't agree with her little body. She woke up in the middle of the night with a 102.3-degree fever (yes, her first fever, and yes, it freaked mommy out!). She was feverish and tired all day Saturday but started to come out of it in the evening. (Thank you Infant Tylenol!) She was back to herself the next day, thank goodness.

In other important Natalie news, she's mastered the art of sitting! Yes, she sits up by herself like a big girl. But, if she's distracted or reaches for something a little too far out of reach, she tends to topple over. But every day her balance seems to improve a little more. We can tell that she's pretty dang proud of herself. And rightly so!

Still no teeth... has she fooled us yet again??? I guess it is a long process but the way she was acting a few weeks ago, I thought for sure she would be getting teeth in any time. But, it's fine by me if she doesn't get them for a while!

Everyone drive safely out there! We don't need any more accidents this winter... Hope Uncle Peter is feeling better soon.

Fun at Kaylie & Sophie's house...

Natalie's sitter just gave me a disc with some cute pics she's recently snapped of her and her playmates, Kaylie (3-1/2 years) and Sophie (10 months). I'm sharing a few of them, including some hilarious "I've just woken up, why are you sticking a camera in my face?"shots, to Nat's new admirer, Fritz the dog (apparently, he LOVES Nat and is always on her blanket with her!). She also likes to cruise in Sophie's walker (a little freedom to roam!). Looks like she's having a pretty fun time, don't you think?

Natalie is sprouting more than just hair...

If you recall, Natalie was born with a beautiful head of beautiful thick, brown hair. Somewhere around 2-3 months, it fell out, leaving only a small tuft on top (she had the unfortunate Donald Trump comb-over thing going on). The fuzz around her head was looking very blond and I was starting to think that I had picked up the wrong child - can you imagine, me with a blond-haired, blue-eyed girl?

This past week we noticed her hair has started thickening up around the sides and the back. Hallelujah! And, I can't tell yet for sure, but it seems to be coming in a little darker, giving me a glimmer of hope that we'll have another brunette in this family.

But, Natalie's been busy and it's not just hair she's been working on. I think she's teething (for real this time!). The average age is about 6 months so she's right on track, although I was hoping on this particular task, she'd be a little slower. Only time will tell, but something is definitely making her grumpy and uncomfortable, and only biting my finger seems to help. I guess it's good, because she's discovered the world of real food and she'll need teeth to keep up! This weekend she had her first taste of carrots and today she had squash. Loves it all and she's really mastered eating from a spoon. At first she'd push the food out with her tongue, but now she scarfs it down. The resulting diapers aren't very fun, but it's fun to see her learning new tastes and seeing how happy she is to feel like a big girl!

At this rate, she'll be driving next month...
